D1vert User Manual

Overview

D1vert is a multichannel channel re-router. It lets you take any speaker channel coming into the plugin and send it to any other speaker channel on the way out — one simple rule per row, as many rows as you need. Use it to fix a miswired surround stem, swap a pair of speakers, fold height channels down to ear level, send the fronts round to the surrounds, or build any custom re-patch you can describe.

It works on every common surround and immersive layout from 4.0 up to 9.1.6 (16 channels). D1vert reads whatever layout the host gives it and offers only the channels actually present, so the routing you build always matches the track you're on. There is no metering, mixing, or level processing — D1vert moves channels and nothing else, so the audio that arrives is the audio that leaves.

The plugin runs as AU, VST3, and AAX where available.

Getting Started

Installation

The installer places the plugin in the system-wide plugin directories:

macOS:

/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/ (AU)
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/ (VST3)
/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins/ (AAX)

Windows:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\ (VST3)
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins\ (AAX)

Launch your DAW and scan for new plugins. D1vert appears in the spatial / surround category.

Basic Setup

  1. Insert D1vert on a track with a multichannel bus (4.0, 5.1, 7.1.4, 9.1.6, and so on).
  2. The routing table fills with the channels present on that track — nothing to configure up front.
  3. Click + Add Row to create a route, pick a Source speaker on the left and a Destination speaker on the right.
  4. Press the row's power button to make it active. The route takes effect immediately.
  5. Add as many rows as you need. The window grows automatically as you add rows, so every route — up to a full 16-channel layout — stays in view.

Supported Layouts

D1vert recognizes the full immersive speaker set and lists each channel by its full name in the Source and Destination menus:

Speaker
Left / Right
Center
Low-frequency effects (subwoofer)
Front-stage wides (9.x formats)
Side surrounds
Rear surrounds (7.x and 9.x formats)
Top front heights
Top middles (.6 formats — directly overhead)
Top rear heights

Only the channels that exist on the current track appear in the Source and Destination menus. Switch the plugin onto a different layout and the menus repopulate to match.

The Routing Table

The routing table is the whole interface. Each row is one instruction: take this Source channel and send it to this Destination channel. Rows are read from top to bottom.

Each row has:

  • A power button on the left — turns the row on or off. An inactive row is ignored entirely, so you can park a route without deleting it.
  • A Source menu — the speaker the signal is read from.
  • A Destination menu (after the arrow) — the speaker the signal is sent to.
  • An X button — deletes the row.

Use + Add Row at the bottom to add another instruction. A half-built row — one with the Source or Destination still unset — simply does nothing until you finish it.

Each speaker is used once. As soon as a speaker is chosen as a Source in one row, it's grayed out in the Source menus of every other row; the same goes for Destinations. That keeps every input read once and every output written once, so the menus only ever offer you a valid re-patch — there's no way to accidentally point two rows at the same speaker.

How Routing Works

D1vert takes a single snapshot of the incoming audio and then fills each output channel from that snapshot, so every route reads from the original signal. This keeps the behavior predictable no matter what order your rows are in.

Unrouted channels pass straight through. Any speaker you never use as a Destination keeps its own audio. Drop D1vert on a track, add one route, and everything else is untouched.

A channel you move away from falls silent. If you send a speaker's signal somewhere else but nothing is sent back to it, that speaker goes quiet — its audio has gone to its new home and there is nothing left to play in the old spot.

Swaps just work. Point two rows at each other — send Left Surround to Left Surround Rear and Left Surround Rear to Left Surround — and the two channels trade places cleanly. Because every route reads from the original snapshot, neither one steps on the other; you get a true exchange, not one overwriting the next.

No collisions to untangle. Because each speaker can be chosen only once per column, two rows can never fight over the same destination — the menus simply don't let you set that up. Every active route lands on its own output, so what you build is exactly what you hear.

Bypass

Use your host's bypass control to A/B your re-patch against the untouched signal in one click. Bypassing passes every input straight to its matching output, ignoring the whole table at once. Your routing is preserved while bypassed and returns exactly as it was the moment you switch bypass off.

Light Mode

Click the LIGHT button in the header to toggle between dark and light color schemes. The setting persists across sessions.

Licensing

Click the key icon in the footer to manage your license. From the licensing dialog you can activate a license key, start a trial, or open the purchase page in your browser. Without a valid license the plugin's output is silenced, so activate before you mix.

A quick example: drop D1vert on a 7.1.4 stem that came in with its surrounds wired backwards, add two rows to swap Ls with Lrs and Rs with Rrs, tick them both — and the rear field flips into place while every other channel plays on untouched.
