Overview

Overview

Bass distortion that understands bass, and more...

Most distortion plugins weren't designed with low-end in mind. Crank the drive on a bass guitar, synth bass, or 808 and you get mud — the low frequencies distort into an indistinct mess that loses punch and definition. You're left choosing between character and clarity.

D1rtBass was built from the ground up for bass instruments. Four distinct distortion modes — from warm tube saturation to unpredictable analog fuzz — each with built-in low-frequency protection that automatically preserves your low-end as the drive increases. No multiband routing. No manual crossover tweaking. Just dial in the dirt and the bottom end stays tight.

But D1rtBass isn't just for bass — and it isn't just stereo. Flip the crossover to inverse mode and only the low frequencies get driven — add gritty sub-harmonic texture to kicks, floor toms, or synth pads without touching the top end. Or throw it on a vocal and use the standard mode to add high-frequency edge and presence while the lows stay clean. The same frequency-aware engine that protects bass also makes D1rtBass a surgical creative tool on any source — distort exactly the part of the spectrum you want and leave the rest untouched.

Up to 8x oversampling keeps harmonics clean at any drive level, while automatic output compensation maintains consistent loudness across modes and settings — so you can focus on tone, not gain staging.

Then take it spatial.

If you use D1rtBass on a multichannel track it allows you to select output formats up to 7.1.4 - the S-MIX button is then visible, S-MIX is a surround mixer that gives you per-channel gain faders, mute, solo, and stereo linking — full control over where every part of the signal lands.

  • - Use the passthru button to keep the L/R channels unaffected and send the distortion to discreet surround locations

  • Press stereo exclude and remove the distorted signal completely from the stereo foldown, meaning you can apply spatial treatments that are not required for the stereo mix, keeping the stereo foldown closer to the original stereo mix. Check this with the included Delta button that makes any difference between the original stereo and signal with stereo exclusion.

  • Add a delay offset to the surround send up to 250ms for some real creative options.

The surround mixer from D1stBass will be included in future plugins as a standard feature.
